Senior party leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former prime minister Imran Khan has decided to contest by-elections from all 33 vacant seats in the National Assembly. Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Sunday evening, PTI Vice Chairman and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that this decision was taken in the core committee meeting of the party.
Imran Khan will be the sole candidate of PTI for all 33 parliamentary seats. This decision was taken in the core committee meeting of the party presided over by Imran Khan at Zaman Park Lahore on Sunday,” Qureshi said.
Earlier this month, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said on Twitter that Imran Khan will be the party's candidate for all 63 seats. The final decision was announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday that the by-elections to the 33 vacant seats of the National Assembly will be held on March 16.

PTI legislators had resigned en masse from the National Assembly of Pakistan in April 2022 following the impeachment of Imran Khan.
However, the Speaker of the National Assembly accepted only 11 resignations and said he needed to verify individually whether the lawmakers were resigning voluntarily. In October last year, Khan contested eight parliamentary seats and won six of them.
Last month, National Assembly Speaker Ashraf accepted the resignations of 35 PTI legislators after which the ECP de-notified them. The Speaker later accepted the resignations of another 35 (and the ECP de-notified them) and the remaining 43 PTI legislators when Imran Khan asked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for a vote of confidence. He announced to return to the National Assembly.
The ECP is yet to de-notify 43 PTI legislators. If the ECPPTI de-notifies the remaining 43 legislators, Khan's party will be virtually eliminated from the National Assembly.
